Poor Broadway Musical
Tony Award winner for Broadway and West End musical Wicked is an adaptation of the bestseller excited Bad: The Life and Times of ill Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire, a parallel novel of the classic story of L. Frank Baum The Wonderful Wizard of Oz from the perspective of the witches of Oz. Malo is not a bad musical novel. While the novel is the spring, the musical presents only pieces of it in a very simplified way, and often divergent wild narrative of the novel. One might be tempted to think all this destroys the work, but in the end improvement, a bright light in many ironies of history and interlaced levels of social commentary. But the musical score of Wicked is heavily thematic taking, in some ways more resemble a soundtrack of a traditional music score.
The musical made its Broadway debut on October 30, 2003. It was produced for Universal Pictures and directed by Joe Mantello, with staged by Wayne Cilento. In choosing among the 38 characters speak on the novel Wicked, the musical's authors show Malo decided to focus its findings in eight main characters and a few others and everything. Malo tells the story of Elphaba born with emerald green skin, smart, passionate and misunderstood, the future Wicked Witch of the West and its relationship with Glinda the good witch of the North, beautiful, ambitious and very popular. Their friendship through their struggles opposing views and dispositoins, rivalry in love of self interest, their responses to the corrupt wizard, and, ultimately, Elphaba public disgrace. His story mate scenarios of several plots in a well built, a musical adventure full of surprises. Birilliantly Music and lyrics are selected and presented by Stephen Schwartz. Wicked is a truly heartfelt story of friendship and love. As Richard Zoglin of Time magazine said: "If every musical had a brain, heart and courage of Wicked, Broadway would be really a magical place! "
Malo has topped the applications of all Broadway shows with a total of ten nominations and won Tony Award in three of them: Best Performance by an Actress in a Musical Home – Idina Menzel Best Scene Design – Eugene Lee.
