Altered Art can with copyrighted photos, postcards, ads in magazines?

I have recently started to make art amended old with newspaper clippings, old photographs, old postcards, greeting cards etc. How does this work with the copyright?

All original copyrights are still in force. You have made what is called a "derivative work." If you are using excerpts for educational purposes is a "Fair use" of the original works, as you mention all full. If you sell your work or part thereof, or put on public display, you must obtain permission from all copyright holders original!
