Donna hymn to one of my favorite shero peace in my soul sings. So, to start the school year, I invite you to swim in wonderful prose Donna on the subject of Peace Pilgrim. This is followed by a prayer for peace written by Ellen under that order had tears in his triumph.

Queen Peace

Peace Pilgrim spent nearly 30 years his life to walk and talk peace. Lisette Mildred Norman was born in 1908 in a small poultry farm in Egg Harbor City, New Jersey. She was the eldest three children with love, tight-knit family of nine.

Norman ancestors had fled from Germany to America at the century mid-19th to escape conflict and militarism. His parents instilled a strong ethic of peace to their children, encouraging discussion of social and political issues, and finding of moral issues. The family considered themselves "free thinkers" that have sought answers through reason and logic.

After graduating from high school, Mildred Norman found a job as a secretary. As a young adult, had an active social life and the age of eloped with Stanley Ryder, a businessman of 25 years. They were very inconsistent and that the marriage was stormy from the start. Stanley wanted a traditional family life and children, Mildred did not. He liked to drink, Mildred did not. Stanley believes in the war, Mildred. With each passing year, the couple grew apart.

Ironically, during the Great Depression Mildred learned that making money is easy, and spending foolishly was completely meaningless. She knew it was not his destiny, but did not know what it was.

She know, however, was not satisfied with your life. It was more inconvenient to have so many starving. In 1938, he spent an entire night walking through the forest to pray for guidance to find his vocation, and had a profound experience spiritual awakening

I felt a full provision without reservation, to give my life – to dedicate my life – to the service. "If I was any good, please serve me" I prayed to God. "I'm here to take all of me, I serve. I have nothing left. "Then a great peace came over me. I had a total availability, without reservation, to give my life to something beyond it myself.

Thus began a period of 15 years of intense inner transformation. She said: "I tell you it is a point of no return. After this, we can not go completely self-centered life. "

Throughout the decade of the 1940s, Mildred searching diligently for the service he felt called to do. First, she worked with elderly and those with emotional problems. Then she volunteered for organizations for peace: Quaker American Friends Service Committee, Philadelphia Stock Exchange Commission and the Council of the United Nations and the League of Philadelphia Women's International Peace and Freedom.

Upon entering quarantine, Mildred began to radically simplify their lives. She decided to get rid of useless goods and frivolous activities. She dissolved her unhappy marriage. She became a vegetarian, for self discipline to live ten dollars per week, and his wardrobe down to two dresses. Their goal was "to experience and learn to appreciate the great freedom of simplicity. "

She describes this period as a time when it was engaged in a great struggle between self and consciousness, or their "lowest egocentric nature" and higher, "God-centered nature." We have tried to overcome selfishness to achieve inner peace and spiritual maturity.

Mildred joined the resistance of walking and hiking club can increase physical strength and gain experience simple life. In 1952, he became the first woman to walk the full length 2050-mile Appalachian in a season.

Life on the track accordingly. Walking reinforced his belief in the simplicity and confirmed its ability to live harmony, if necessary, at the level of long periods of time, at any time. He managed to live off for five months with only a pair of pants, a shirt with a sweater, a blanket and two sheets of plastic.

His letter, morning and evening, has been two cups of raw oats soaked in water and seasoned with brown sugar, at noon, there were two cups of double strength milk powder, more berries, nuts or vegetables that found in the forest.

Her experience convinced her that material possessions were simply a burden, and achieve a state of grace daily, she would have to keep that ease after that went down the road.

His long march led to a period of soul searching focused on what she, a person could be the cause of peace. This meditation quarantine as a result of their experience a powerful spiritual vision, an epiphany undeniable. She came to understand that it was his destiny to be "A traveler until mankind has learned the ways of peace."

I saw in the eyes of my mind, I headed
over and the shield of my mission … I saw a United States map with major cities marked – and it was as if someone had taken a crayon and marked a zigzag through, from coast to coast and border to border, from Los Angeles to New York. I knew what to do. I speak for all who hear me on the road peace. Even the intention to carry a sign, which goes back to reading "Coast to Coast Walk for Peace" and forehead "Peace Pilgrim.

She gave all his possessions – including his name – and ready to carry out the incredible journey continued for the rest of his life.

Paso a Paso. . . Mile by mile. . . Walking Tour. . . Marching. . . Dance
Feel the force behind peace.

In the morning of January 1, 1953, to 44 years Mildred Norman Ryder took the name of Peace Pilgrim, put on a pair of sneakers, wearing dark blue pants, shirt, tunic – blue is the color for International Peace – and went Pasadena, California, to walk across the country. She promised to run until given shelter and fasting until he has provided food.

She was Rose Parade in front, where thousands of people could see her out of his way. His tunic bore his name, Peace Pilgrim, on the front and the back is printed with their goal: 10,000 Miles for world peace. He had some cases – a comb, toothbrush, pen, stamps and anything else a penny – in their pockets.

Peace Pilgrim is for peace on faith alone, and in doing so carried out a bold and innovative achievement represents a great moral courage. In this first trip, in the midst of the war in Korea, the Cold War, and the height of the McCarthy era, he walked 5000 miles from California to New York, from coast to coast and border to border, sharing his message of peace.

Nobody
can walk safely only one who walks humbly and safe with great love and great faith. To a person goes for the good of others (and good in the world), and therefore can not be damaged. It operates between individuals, which operates between the working groups and among nations if nations had the courage trying.

Has he met all the footprint explanation that the message was simple. "This is the path of peace – overcome evil with good falsehood with truth, and hatred with love. "I rarely missed more than three meals before they are offered food. If you do not offer accommodation, sleeping in fields, under bridges, and more than once in prison.

During his 28 years on the road, the Queen of Peace has largely beyond their original purpose miles. When you have passed the 25 000 miles, stopped counting, but she kept walking for 17 years. Increased by 29 pairs of shoes Sports, an average of 1500 miles per pair. At this pace, walked 43.500 miles.

At his death in 1981, which had crossed the United States seven times, visiting ten provinces of Canada and parts of Mexico, spreading his message of hope for peace and inspiration to thousands of people who crossed his path extraordinary.

Peace Pilgrim is my shero. I can only pray for the wisdom and the will to follow their footsteps.

To achieve inner peace, is actually that make your life, not just your property. The last time we give our lives – on-line for their beliefs and the way you live – then and only then can we begin to find inner peace.

Must be one of prayers for peace more beautiful that I have ever read. He attended the Queen in The Chronicles test Donna it.

Peace Prayer

Pray for those who kneel to:
Jesus nailed to his wooden or marble cross or plastic
his suffering face bent to kiss,
Buddha still under the Bo tree in scorching heat,
Adonay, God. Raise your arms to Mary
him to put his hand on the forehead,
to Shekinhah, Queen of Heaven and Earth
Inanna in her stripped descent.

Praying the bus driver you leads to work
pray on the bus, pray for everyone riding buses
and for everyone on the bus in the world.
If you have not been on a bus in a long time
climb the few steps, drop a little money, and pray.

Waiting in line for the cinema, to ATM,
coffee for you and croissants, to give his statement.
Make your eating and drinking a supplication.
Make your slices of carrots a holy act,
each translucent layer of onion, deeper prayer.

Hawk or Wolf, or the whale, now
Bow down to terriers and shepherds and Siamese cats.
Fields of artichokes and elegant strawberries.

Make brushing your hair a prayer, each component
his own voice, singing in the choir in the head.
As you wash your face, water slides
between fingers, a prayer: Water,
softest thing on earth, gentleness
bearing rock.

Make love, of course, is already a prayer.
The skin and mouth open skin cult
If paid in fragile

If you're hungry, please. If you are tired.
Pray for Gandhi Day Dorothy.
Shakespeare. Sappho. Sojourner Truth.

When you walk to your car, mailbox,
the video store, every step
a prayer that we all keep our legs,
not open someone else's legs.
Or crush their skulls.
And if you ride a bicycle
or a skateboard, in a wheelchair, each revolution
wheels a prayer that Earth rotates
we will do less damage, less evil, less damage.

And as you work, writing new manicure
a small palm of the hand painted on one pearlescent nail
or soda or drawing good blood
Rubber-covered road, writing on a blackboard
pizzas with yellow chalk, twirling –

With each breath, take in faith
who believe that belief seemed foolish,
who have persevered. With each breath, dear.

Pull weeds for peace, turn in your sleep for peace,
feed the birds peace, each shiny seed
that spills on land, a second of peace.
Wash your dishes, call your mother, drink wine.

Shovel leaves or snow or the garbage from your curb.
Clear a path. Fold a photo of a child's death
around your VISA card. Gnaw your crust.
Mumbling along like a crazy stumbling
Your prayer through the streets.
